Ohio State notebook: Search on for Devin Smith’s replacement as freshman quarterback volunteers to switch

COLUMBUS: Among the challenge for Ohio State’s football coaching staff this summer is finding a receiver who excels at catching the deep ball like Akron native and Massillon High School product Devin Smith.

Drafted in the second round by the New York Jets, Smith led Ohio State with 12 touchdowns and averaged 28.2 yards per catch during its national championship run, including seven TDs in the final three games against Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon.

One candidate could be Torrance Gibson, a freshman quarterback from Plantation, Fla., who is willing to make a position switch for playing time.
