Ohio State notebook: Real Life Wednesdays program, ensuing internships become recruiting tools for Buckeyes

COLUMBUS: Ohio State coach Urban Meyer’s Real Life Wednesdays program designed to prepare the Buckeyes for life after football is now providing an ancillary benefit.

The series of nationally renowned leaders in business and athletics who address the team during the winter and spring has become a valuable recruiting tool.

Five-star recruits Baron Browning, a linebacker from Fort Worth, Texas, and Jeffrey Okudah, a cornerback from Grand Prairie, Texas, mentioned Real Life Wednesdays as a factor in their decisions to join the 21-member class of 2017.

But they are drawn not just to hear talks from CEOs like Les Wexner of Limited Brands, Jamie Dimond of JPMorgan Chase, Keith Wandell of Harley Davidson, Sam Covelli of Panera Bread or Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert or participate in a job fair in May.
