Gareon Conley barely recognizes the player he was in last year’s Michigan State game.
For one thing, the Ohio State cornerback wore No. 19 then. Now he’s No. 8. But the difference goes well beyond a number change.
A year ago, Conley made his only start of 2014. It did not go well. Subbing for Eli Apple, who had an injured hamstring, Conley was beaten deep and then missed a tackle on a swing pass that resulted in a Michigan State touchdown on the Spartans’ first possession.

The Buckeyes then summoned Apple, bad hamstring and all, who gutted it out the rest of the game.
