Ohio State notebook: Big Ten names Bell defensive player of week

Ohio State safety Vonn Bell, honored Monday as the Big Ten defensive player of the week, said he had intended to leave his mark on Minnesota during Saturday’s game.

“Coach Ash (Chris Ash, who specializes in safeties) told me at the beginning of the week my performance was going to make or break the team,” Bell said. “That’s because I had to be able to play the deep balls and tackle very well because I’m the one high safety. Wherever (the play) breaks to, come down and just make plays.

“Just me and him having that conversation, I told him I’d get the job done for him.
