The annual July recruiting period is when college basketball coaches check the skyline each morning to figure out what city they’re in.
Ohio State coach Thad Matta’s itinerary for those days, beginning Wednesday, sounds like it was drawn up by a circus.
“I’m going to Atlanta, to Charlotte, to Augusta (Ga.), and may have to go to Indy or Chicago,” Matta said.
Matta and his assistant coaches, however, will keep a close eye on Columbus and the roster of talent they’ve already accrued here while traveling to NCAA-sanctioned summer camps and AAU tournaments during three evaluation periods — Wednesday through Sunday, July 15-19 and July 22-26.
