Ohio State officially has announced the return of Chris Jent to Thad Matta’s coaching staff.
Jent, 46, who most recently was head coach for the Bakersfield Jam of the NBA’s Developmental League, was an assistant under Matta from 2011-13 before accepting an assistant coaching position with the NBA’s Sacramento Kings. He replaces Jeff Boals, who departed after a seven-year tenure with the Buckeyes to become the head coach at Stony Brook.
Ohio State had posted a job opening for the position April 11 that expired seven days later.
“I definitely know about (the hiring) just from talking to people,” forward Keita Bates-Diop said Wednesday, prior to the hiring being announced publicly.
