Tuesday was a big day for Justin Ahrens. While on an unofficial visit to Ohio State, the Versailles, Ohio, native had the chance to run into Mike Conley Jr. while assistant coach Greg Paulus was showing him around.
Then, after a few more meetings, head coach Thad Matta offered the 6-foot-5, 181-pound Ahrens a scholarship. Even though it didn’t come as a major surprise to the prospect in the class of 2018, Ahrens said it made a big impact on a kid who grew up a Buckeyes fan.
“Coach Matta was saying today that the past year or two have been a little down and said he’s been getting away from his normal tactics, which are finding Ohio guys and getting guys who want to play for the name on the front and not the back,” Ahrens told The Dispatch.
