Ohio State defensive tackle Tracy Sprinkle released a statement on Twitter on Sunday night saying he is thankful for the support he received after suffering a season-ending injury in the season opener Saturday.
Sprinkle, a redshirt junior who became a starter this year, tore the patellar tendon in his right knee in the Buckeyes’ 77-10 victory over Bowling Green. He was injured when he fell back awkwardly after being shoved by Falcons offensive lineman J.J. Beggan as a first-quarter play ended.
It was immediately clear that Sprinkle was injured seriously. His teammates kneeled down and surrounded him to provide comfort before he was helped off the field.
