Ohio State football | The science behind choosing a starting quarterback

When you have two quarterbacks that are as skilled as both J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones are, choosing one over the other is not easy. In other decisions, such as buying a new car, you can easily do a side by side comparison of specifications. Categories such as horsepower, gas mileage and price directly influence the purchase.

Comparing athletes is a different ballgame. Sure, you can look at stats for passing yards, rushing yards, and completion percentage; but when the sample sizes are so different (Cardale’s three games to Barrett’s full regular season) the decision cannot be made on stats alone.
