Ohio State’s Sam Hubbard was named first team academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America on Thursday.
The third-year sophomore defensive end from Cincinnati Moeller holds a 3.61 grade-point average while majoring in finance. He is the 29th Ohio State player all-time to make the academic first team, and third in the past two years, joining 2015 honorees Jacoby Boren and Jack Willoughby.
Hubbard, a full-time starter for the first time this season, has 41 tackles this year, including seven for loss, the latest of which was a trip of Jabrill Peppers in the Buckeyes’ regular-season ending, two-overtime win over Michigan last Saturday.
