Ohio State football | Q&A with former Buckeye Bobby Watkins

Dispatch sports reporter/columnist Rob Oller each week finds a former Buckeye for a question-and-answer session.

Bobby Watkins

Bobby Watkins arrived at Ohio State in 1951 with a New England accent and new coach in Woody Hayes, who recruited Watkins from Massachusetts and made him one of the first black running backs in school history. Watkins led the Buckeyes in rushing in 1953 and in scoring during the 1954 national championship season. He played four years in the NFL with the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cardinals before a knee injury ended his career.
