Ohio State football notebook: Preseason camp isn’t grind it used to be

Larry Johnson has been involved with football as a player, high-school coach and college coach for 50 years, and the Ohio State defensive line coach has seen the grind of preseason camp change dramatically during that span.

“We used to go three-a-days; every day was a three-a-day,” Johnson said of the 1970s, ’80s and ’90s. “It was a three-week process, it wasn’t a two-week process.”

Top-ranked Ohio State just came off what is considered now to be the toughest part of the preseason, just over a week of a two-a-day practices followed by a one-a-day followed by a two-a-day.
