Ohio State football | Maryland a key game again?

On Ohio State’s road to the 2014 national championship, the Buckeyes’ victory over Maryland is regarded as a footnote.

It didn’t have the comeback drama of Penn State, the redemption of Michigan State, the rivalry factor of Michigan, the shock of Wisconsin or the sheer thrill of Alabama or Oregon.

But Ohio State’s 52-24 victory over the Terrapins was an important one.

“Huge,” coach Urban Meyer said.

That game was the Big Ten opener after the Buckeyes looked shaky in the non-conference part of the schedule. New to the Big Ten, Maryland billed the game to be as big as any played at Byrd Stadium.
