One should not be hasty to judge the potential of a college football team. Ohio State coach Urban Meyer was reminded of that lesson last year in a tough but ultimately good way.
In a three-week span, he lost his Heisman Trophy candidate in quarterback Braxton Miller in preseason and Ohio State lost to Virginia Tech. Meyer said he remembered having a conversation with his wife, Shelley, about his reduced expectations.
“I almost accepted the fact (that) I hope we get to a decent bowl game, and watch out next year,” Meyer said.
Then a funny thing happened.
