Ohio State football | Former players’ advice: Pick a quarterback, ID playmakers

There is no starting over from scratch despite the surprising struggles of the Ohio State offense, but a couple of former OSU players think coach Urban Meyer would be well-served by hitting the default button.

That would mean settling on a starting quarterback — Cardale Jones or J.T. Barrett — instead of playing both in every game, said Stanley Jackson. In 1996 and ’97, he was part of a two-quarterback system with Joe Germaine that did not go as well it looked, despite the Buckeyes’ overall success.

And former Ohio State running back Beanie Wells said he would have Meyer and his fellow play-callers, offensive coordinator Ed Warinner and quarterbacks coach Tim Beck, put a symbolic stake in the ground.
