Ezekiel Elliott had an unprecedented post-season as a running back on the national champion Ohio State football team, and today he reaped a little more glory, being named the winner of the 85th Sullivan Award.
Under the auspices of the Amateur Athletic Union, the Sullivan goes annually to the nation’s top amateur athlete. Elliott was one of six finalists, including Jahlil Okafor, center for the national basketball champion Duke.
“First of all I want to thank the AAU Sullivan Award for representing the outstanding amateur athletes for the past 85 years,” Elliott said after being presented the trophy during a ceremony at the New York Athletic Club.
