COLUMBUS: It wasn’t too long after a run-in with Columbus police that J.T. Barrett was at Urban Meyer’s house.
Barrett, 20, was arrested early Saturday morning for operating a vehicle while intoxicated after he tried to drive around a Columbus checkpoint and failed a breathalyzer test.
Ohio State coach Urban Meyer that day suspended Barrett for one game, meaning he’ll miss Saturday’s game against Minnesota. Provisions in the Ohio State student-athlete handbook outline an automatic two-game suspension for an alcohol violation for a minor but, because it was deemed a misdemeanor, Barrett’s case didn’t qualify and the punishment was solely at Meyer’s discretion.
