A coin toss decided which quarterback would take the first snap Monday in the first preseason practice for Ohio State.
Cardale Jones won over J.T. Barrett. Jones called heads.
That was deemed the fairest way to settle the simplest of questions as the defending national champion, with two quarterbacks from that team competing to start, jumped into camp. But a coin toss won’t be used to name the ultimate winner, the player who will start Sept. 7 at Virginia Tech.
“I’m pretty sure it will come down to who can manage the game better, who can manage the offense better, keep us in third-and-manageable,” Jones said after the practice.
