Ohio State fights back for sloppy, season-opening win over Cincinnati 64-56

On Wednesday night, the No. 18 Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team opened the program’s 121st season of play by defeating the in-state foe Cincinnati Bearcats by a score of 64-56. With expectations higher than they ever have been for a Chris Holtmann-coached Buckeye team, OSU was kept in the game by a dominant Kyle Young in the first 20 minutes. As is often the case in season-openers, the play was less than clean and/or efficient, but the junior power forward kept the home team in the game with 10 of their 19 first-half points, en route to career-highs in both points and rebounds.
