As the Ohio State University marching band played Carmen Ohio and students struggled over guardrails to rush the field, Jay and Crystal Wagner marveled at what they were witnessing.
"Look at this," Mr. Wagner said, taking in the field, which had turned into a roiling sea of scarlet and grey after Ohio State defeated Michigan in double overtime.
Amid half-naked students crusty with red paint and people snapping selfies with the field behind them, the Wagners enjoyed their moment in the South stands pinched between the band and the raucous, elated student section. The Wagners, Ohio State grads who live in Carmel, Ind.
