Ohio State Decides to Pump Its Own Gas in a Blowout Victory Over Rutgers

One of the canned phrases that I assume the BTN decided would be appropriate for Ohio State's matchup against Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey is that the game took place "in the shadow of the Empire State Building," despite the fact that Rutgers University is located approximately 27 miles away from said building.

Anyway, the game itself wasn't particularly exciting after the first half, so I got to wondering: exactly how tall would the Empire State Building have to be to actually cast a shadow on the game? Well, since 27 miles is around 142,000 feet, it was a simple matter of going to the US Naval Observatory and determining the angle of the sun in New York City at 7:40ish PM, and then, using a button on a calculator that some other website told me to use, I determined that for the BTNs pithy little comment to be correct the Empire State Building would have to be roughly 12,000 feet tall.
