COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State coach Urban Meyer on Monday publicly addressed for the first time the medical situation of Buckeyes freshman defensive back Jamel Dean, echoing what sources first told Northeast Ohio Media Group last week.
Dean was medically disqualified from playing for the Buckeyes on his initial physical at Ohio State after reporting to school in January. Team doctors deemed Dean unable to play because of a knee injury. Meyer on Monday said that the program handled Dean correctly and was "forthright" in communicating that.
John Wilkinson, Dean's high school coach, told NEOMG last week he was upset about Ohio State's handling of Dean's situation.
