Jae’Sean Tate scored 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting, junior forward Marc Loving logged his second career double-double with 12:27 left, and Ohio State defeated Virginia Military Institute 89-62 Saturday at Value City Arena.
The win was the Buckeyes’ fourth in four meetings with the Keydets. It was also their first victory since Nov. 17 against Grambling State, snapping the team’s first four-game losing streak in nonconference play since 1957.
A layup by VMI guard Trey Chapman cut Ohio State’s lead to 10 with 15:41 remaining, but the Keydets got no closer. Loving, who had 17 points and 10 rebounds, scored 8 points during an 18-3 run for the Buckeyes over the next 6:20 to put the game out of reach.
