Ohio State 28, Minnesota 14: Buckeyes hold off Gophers for 22nd consecutive victory

COLUMBUS: It doesn’t have to be a blowout every week. It doesn’t even need to be pretty.

Ohio State just needs to keep winning, stay undefeated and remain in the top four of the playoff picture.

That’s what the Buckeyes — ranked No. 3 by the playoff committee — did Saturday night in a 28-14 win over Minnesota, improving to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the Big Ten.

It was Ohio State’s 22nd consecutive victory overall and 29th regular-season conference win, tying the national record. The Buckeyes can set the all-time record Saturday at Illinois.

Early on, Saturday night’s game looked like a nod to 1940s-style football.
