As a member of the Marine Corps, Thomas Mack was stationed in places such as North Carolina and California before he finally was able to settle down with his family, in Cincinnati.
His 5-year-old son, Chris, didn’t know it at the time, but the city would become part of his fabric, like the suits he wears during games as Xavier’s men’s basketball coach.
Except for two years at the University of Evansville in Indiana as a student-athlete, one year of professional basketball in Europe and three as an assistant coach at Wake Forest, Mack has been a Cincinnati man like few others.
