There almost is as much happening on the field during a victory celebration than the game itself, but Mount Union senior Tyler Baker remembers one moment in particular after the Division III national championship that was fit for a portrait.
The Purple Raiders had just defeated St. Thomas 49-35 in the Stagg Bowl on Dec. 18, and Baker’s eyes caught coach Vince Kehres and his father and predecessor, Larry, quietly sharing the experience like a game of catch in the backyard.
“VK and LK were in the moment and were so happy for everyone, especially the seniors," said Baker, an offensive tackle from Hilliard Davidson.
