There will be so much going on inside the mind of Bowling Green quarterback Matt Johnson during the Mid-American Conference championship game that he probably won’t notice the player in street clothes on crutches on the other sideline.
But Johnson is aware of the painful story of Northern Illinois quarterback Drew Hare and what put him in a cast, and will have more empathy for him than any player on either team at Ford Field.
Johnson knows about surgery, casts, crutches, walking boots and ugly mental and physical scars.
Hare suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon in a victory over Toledo the ninth game of the season.
