Interest in gymnastics tends to peak in Olympic years.
Local fans of the sport won’t have to wait until the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro in August to see elite gymnasts. This weekend, for the first time in 13 years, Ohio State will play host to the Big Ten men’s gymnastics championships.
In two weeks, St. John Arena also will be the site of the NCAA men’s championships.
“It’s always special to host those competitions,” Ohio State coach Rustam Sharipov said. “It’s a big opportunity for us to promote our sport and show people how beautiful the sport is, how difficult it is.
