At No. 66, Derek Funderburk is the only Ohio State freshman to break into ESPN’s top 100 for the 2016 recruiting class. Funderburk was in the latter stages of his senior year at Chatham Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia when the final list was revealed on Twitter, and it brought an immediate response.
In summary: There is no way there are 65 players better than me.
It’s an attitude born more out of confidence than arrogance, Funderburk said, and one that the Buckeyes hope will lead to big things this season.
“That confidence really just comes from my blood,” he told The Dispatch in a phone interview before reporting to campus.
