Damon Goodwin laughed when approached for an interview about returning as men’s basketball coach at Capital after a six-month hiatus to fight hairy-cell leukemia.
“All I did all winter long was sit on my rear end and watch basketball," he said.
On Nov. 1, Goodwin, 52, was diagnosed with leukemia after feeling run-down for a number of weeks. Assistant Andy Winters took over the Crusaders and led them to a 12-14 record.
Goodwin's final chemotherapy treatment was in mid-April, but he had been working two days a week in his office in the Capital Center for several weeks.
