AKRON, Ohio -- Ohio University players ran off the field at InfoCision Stadium looking as if they were fleeing the scene after committing a misdemeanor rather than celebrating victory in a Mid-American Conference opener.

The Bobcats got beat in time of possession, had a pass intercepted in the end zone and were called for eight penalties, but they played an effective game of rope-a-dope with an overworked defense.

A 24-yard touchdown catch by tight end Keith Heitzman of Hilliard Davidson in the first quarter and a 4-yard run by Daz Patterson in the second were enough for Ohio to squeak out a 14-12 win over Akron before an announced crowd of 17,301 on a gray, chilly Saturday in which rain fell off and on.
