Jeremiah Smith keeps collecting records in his first year as a Buckeye.
With his third reception against Purdue, Smith broke Cris Carter's Ohio State freshman receptions record, giving Smith 42 on the year. The first-year wideout had already claimed Carter's school freshman receiving yards record, up to 678 entering Saturday's game, and equaled his mark for touchdowns with eight.
The record-breaking catch came in style for Smith, a 16-yard snag through double-coverage that nearly converted a first down on 3rd-and-17 for the Buckeyes. A Will Howard sneak moved the chains on the ensuing 4th-and-1.
Smith's been breaking Ohio State records since his first handful of weeks on campus.
