Irish focused on stopping OSU ground game

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Joe Schmidt has seen enough of Ohio State’s offense over the past three weeks to know what the first job will be for him and Notre Dame’s defense Friday in the Fiesta Bowl.

“You’ve got to look at them and see we need to address the running game and their ability to just kind of pound the rock and create fits for defenses with just a very systematic and challenging running attack,” said Schmidt, a linebacker. “It’s about playing assignment-correct football, coming in there with the right mindset, and then just a physical, tenacious, rabid personality in which we can tackle the ball carriers and hopefully do well against them.
