The Jets claimed Elflein off waivers on Monday after he was released by the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.
Elflein, who is in his fourth NFL season, played in just one game for the Vikings this season before suffering a thumb injury. After starting games at all three interior offensive line spots over the past four years, the 2017 third-round draft pick lost his place in the starting lineup while on injured reserve, prompting the Vikings' decision to move on.

While Elflein never quite performed up to expectations in Minnesota after winning the Rimington Trophy in his senior season at Ohio State, he could have a chance to re-emerge as a starter in New York, where the Jets are currently the NFL's lone remaining winless team this year.
