Dwayne Haskins joined elite company on Friday as he was awarded the Chicago Tribune Silver Football, given annually to the Big Ten's top player as voted on by the conference's coaches.
Haskins becomes Ohio State's 18th Silver Football winner. The last four Buckeyes to win it were Troy Smith, Braxton Miller (twice), Ezekiel Elliott and J.T. Barrett.
This award comes after Haskins put up record breaking numbers through the air, throwing for 42 touchdown passes and 4,081 yards, both of which are single-season Big Ten records with at least two games games remaining.
Despite his dominance, Haskins received only five of 13 possible first-place votes as Michigan linebacker Devin Bush, Purdue receiver Rondale Moore, Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley and Wisconsin tailback Jonathan Taylor each received two first-place votes and Michigan defensive tackle Rashan Gary picked up one.
