Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith will be named to the College Football Playoff selection committee, according to a report by ESPN Friday afternoon.
Smith could not be reached immediately for comment, and there has been no formal announcement of the appointment. But ESPN reported that Smith will take the place of Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez, who served the first three years of the playoff. Alvarez is one of three committee members whose terms are ending.
For Smith, in his 12th year as Ohio State athletic director, it might be a role on a new committee, but it probably will seem like old hat.
