The biggest fear that went through Sebastian Smith after he suffered a broken fibula and tibia in his right leg as a freshman in 2012 was not whether he could play football again.
Surgeons put a titanium rod into the leg for stability, and Smith went at the rehabilitation process as if every day was game day.
“The first thing I thought was, ‘Can I get through the metal detector at the airport without creating a delay for our team?’ ” the Ohio receiver said. “This year, we were at Rickenbacker about to board a plane when the man operating the detector asked if I had a metal object in my pants.
