A Kent State assistant coach wise-cracked to DeVante’ Strickland that as a fifth-year medical redshirt senior, he was one of the old men of the team.
Strickland quickly made a correction.
“I told the coach that I was only 22 years old and that there were quite a few players on the team my age,” he said. “But I do think I’m the wise, old veteran.”
Looking back, Strickland gives thanks that 2014 was not his final season in college.
The Flashes, who were predicted to be a solid team, never really had a chance after offensive lineman Jason Bitsko died of natural causes the week before the opener against Ohio.
