College football | Baylor quarterback Sean Russell injures neck; status uncertain

WACO, Texas — Second-ranked Baylor’s 45-27 victory over Iowa State on Saturday might have come at a high price.

Bears quarterback Seth Russell, who began the game as the national leader in passing efficiency (210 rating) and touchdown passes (27) among FBS quarterbacks, left the game in the fourth quarter because of a strained neck after being tackled on a 4-yard run.

Postgame X-rays and a CT scan revealed a fracture in one of the bones of his neck. He will see a specialist in the coming week.

Coach Art Briles said he is concerned about Russell’s availability for the Bears’ next game, on Nov.
