Wendell Davis can write chapters about life as an undersized power forward in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference being similar to that of a sparring partner in boxing.
He gets knocked around every game without much fanfare. But Davis, a 6-foot-6 junior from Reynoldsburg, found out that someone did appreciate how passionately he played for Ashland.
“We had an alumnus and former professor at Ashland who passed away last week at age 78,’’ Davis said of retired religion professor Dr. Don Rinehart. “I spoke to him before our game against Findlay (on Jan. 21). Then I found out he left a voicemail with our coaches saying how much he appreciated the way I played and led.
