After 352 of its athletes combined for 2,374 service hours in the 2014-15 school year, Denison University has won a national community service award. The National Association of Division III Athletic Administrators voted Denison the “array of projects’’ award winner last month. Twenty-eight other universities were nominated.
The Big Red athletes’ service work aided churches, hospitals, schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the West Licking Warriors Special Olympics team and SPARK of Granville, which helps people with developmental disabilities.
Among the efforts:
Men’s basketball players are required to put in at least two service hours a month.
