Bob Hunter | Ohio State home sellouts not a sure thing, even after winning national championship

A chance encounter with a 1982 story about how a home sellout streak at Ohio State nearly ended at 82 games against Baylor struck a familiar chord.

The late Steve Snapp, who was Ohio State’s associate sports information director, explained how season tickets were sold in two three-game packages. Because there were seven home games, the Baylor game had been left out of them. School wasn’t in session, and Snapp admitted “we were worried” when 2,200 tickets were available until right before kickoff.

“The streak is source of considerable pride,” he said.

That 14-year streak did end in 1982, but at 86 games against Wisconsin — the Buckeyes’ third consecutive loss.
