Bob Hunter commentary | Statue honoring Ohio State's Chic Harley is back on its feet

Chic Harley doubtless could have eluded would-be thieves at the site of one of the Ohio State All-American’s former residences, but the stationary, 300-pound bronze likeness of him suffered a hard tackle.

The law-breakers pulled the statue and its base to the ground this week at the Chic Harley Memorial Garden but got it no further. On Thursday, Columbus Art Memorial used a crane to lift the memorial back in place, supported it with scaffolding and secured it to the footer with three stainless steel rods instead of the one that originally held it.

Lucy Wolfe, who chairs the garden board, said it cost $500 to stabilize the statue, an unwelcome expense given that garden is only about 50 percent complete.
