If you’re younger than 90, you have probably never heard of Johnny Miner. Because he was Ohio State’s first basketball All-American and star of its first Big Ten championship team, this seems almost unfathomable. Unfortunately, it’s true.
The Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame is trying to correct this oversight, if somewhat belatedly. Miner was one of 11 members of its 2015 class inducted Saturday night at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The kicker? This is the 10th class since the hall started in 2006, and there were 165 players, coaches and referees inducted ahead of him.
The delay might have occurred because he didn’t have anybody lobbying for him.
