Big Ten country shut out of College Football Playoff championship sites

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- For the first time in college football history, a Big Ten team could have had home field advantage in a game to decide the national championship. But the College Football Playoff denied the Midwest's bid for that.

The College Football Playoff on Tuesday announced the championship sites for 2018, 2019 and 2020, with Atlanta, Santa Clara, Calif. and New Orleans landing those games.

Detroit was a candidate in 2019 and Minneapolis a seemingly strong candidate for 2020, but neither city was selected.

The new U.S. Bank Stadium is Minneapolis will open in the summer of 2016.
