Nick Day hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Iowa a 3-2 victory over Ohio State on Wednesday in a Big Ten tournament opener in Minneapolis.
Day homered off Buckeyes closer Trace Dempsey, who walked Eric Schenck-Joblinske to set up the decisive hit.
The Buckeyes face Indiana at 10 a.m. today in the double-elimination tournament.
Ohio State (35-19), the seventh seed in the event, tied the score at 1 in the seventh inning on Tre Gantt’s sacrifice fly. Pat Porter’s homer in the eighth put the Buckeyes ahead 2-1.
