The Ohio State defense ended the season on a high note, allowing only 13 points in a throttling of Michigan. Yes, the Buckeyes gave up 307 yards passing that day, but most of that came in the midfield area. The Wolverines, meanwhile, were unable to mount any semblance of a running game, totaling only 57 yards as Ohio State twisted the clamps.
That performance provided a balm of sorts for what had happened the week before when the Buckeyes gave up 203 yards rushing in a 17-14 loss to Michigan State. The Spartans gained much that on two fourth-quarter drives that set up the victory when the OSU defense, tasked with saving the game because of the ineptness of its offense, couldn’t get off the field.
