Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching staff are already hard at work putting together the pieces of the 2017 recruiting class, with several intriguing news tidbits emerging just a week and a half after the close of the 2016 recruiting cycle.
We're here to cherry pick the three most interesting stories on the wire right now with our Ohio State Football Recruiting Rumors Roundup For February 15th.
Five-star CB still "100 percent committed" to Buckeyes after Florida visit
Shaun Wade, a five-star cornerback prospect from Jacksonville, FL, announced his pledge to the Buckeyes over a year ago, but a recent visit to Florida brought into question how firm his commitment to Ohio State was. However, in an interview with Scout's Corey Bender, Wade remained solid on his desire to play for the Buckeyes.
"I'm 100% with Urban Meyer, and Ohio State," he said. "The corner coach, all the coaches, I love all the coaches. I talk to them 24/7, everyday."
Wade is ranked as the No. 3 cornerback and No. 12 overall prospect in the class of 2017.
Four-star DT solid with Ohio State commitment, but won't shut down recruiting process
Haskell Garrett, a four-star defensive tackle from Las Vegas, NV, committed to the Buckeyes last week, but he's not ready to completely shut down his recruitment just yet. He plans to make his first visit to Ohio State this spring and says he has been in constant contact with the coaching staff, but he is also considering Penn State and Notre Dame. Garrett also has plans to visit those two schools, but there are so signs of him backing off his pledge to Ohio State.
Will Ohio State ever hold spring practice away from campus?
A lot has been made of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh's plan to hold some spring practices at IMG Academy in Florida during spring break, hoping to gain a recruiting advantage at the high school football powerhouse. Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer is paying attention, but he isn't necessarily planning on doing the same thing anytime soon.
"We monitor the best recruiting schools in the country and see what they do," Meyer said. "I'll tell you this about our conference: They're recruiting their tails off. Big Ten is on fire right now. And I can tell you on a national respect, I can feel it. I've heard about it. Guys are really working.
"We have to remain true to ourselves and who are we and who am I and who do I like to hire and how do we — our focus is on Real Life Wednesdays and graduation life after football, and if you're blessed enough go on to the NFL and win some championships along the way. We're not going to stray from that. "That's been Ohio State style for as long as I've been alive and it's not going to change."
