The regular season is still months away, and the Ohio State Buckeyes are taking advantage of their offseason by turning up the heat on the recruiting trail. Here's all the latest news and rumors surrounding Ohio State's recruiting efforts:
QB target to commit soon?
Four-star quarterback Emory Jones (Franklin, GA), the No. 2 dual-threat quarterback and No. 42 overall prospect in the 2018 class, took visits to Ohio State, Clemson and Tennessee last week, and those visits apparently sealed the deal for the Buckeyes.
“He’s been super busy since he got back from those visits,” his head coach Tim Barron told 247sports. “But he spoke to (Ohio State quarterbacks) coach (Tim) Beck today. It went well. He loved his trip up there. He had a great time. I still think Ohio State is No. 1.
“There is no timetable, but I have a feeling he will make his decision early. He’s narrowed it down to who he really likes. I think he’s ready to pull the trigger. I know he really enjoyed it at Ohio State. The only fear is distance. His mother is very involved. She wants to be at his games. But she doesn’t want to be any cause for him not choosing the school he likes.”
Buckeyes pushing for 4-star LB
Ohio State got a big recruit earlier this month when they landed Tate Martell, the top-ranked dual-threat QB in the 2017 class, and now they're going after one of his teammates - four-star 2018 linebacker Palaie Gaoteote.
“I just got off the phone yesterday with coach (Luke) Fickell and coach Meyer,” Gaoteote said. “It was good. It was just getting to know them more and all.
“I’m definitely interested in Ohio State. That school is up there for me. I have a top five in my head and Ohio State is definitely one of them.”
Gaoteote is ranked as they No. 4 outside linebacker and No. 91 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
