The Ohio State Buckeyes closed the regular season with a big win over Michigan, and now figure to have a long layoff as they prepare for their bowl game. During that time, expect them to ramp up their recruiting efforts to improve an already stellar class that ranks No. 2 nationally with 16 commitments. 5-star target to announce commitment on Tuesday
Five-star offensive tackle Trey Smith (Jackson, TN) will announce his college decision on Tuesday at a 4:30 pm ET press conference on ESPN. Smith is strongly considering Alabama, Ohio State and Tennessee, but Bill Kuerlic of 247sports reports that the Buckeyes have a slight lead and are expected to land him.
The 6-foot-6, 310-pounder is ranked as the No. 5 offensive tackle and No. 20 overall prospect in the country.
Buckeyes lead for 2018 5-star RB
Five-star running back Lorenzo Lingard (Orange City, FL) visited Ohio State for their win over Michigan, and came away so impressed that he has the Buckeyes as No. 1 on his list of favorites.
The 6-foot, 180-pounder is ranked as the No. 2 running back and No. 15 overall prospect in the 2018 class.
Ohio State strongly pursuing recent Notre Dame decommit
Four-star linebacker Pete Werner (Mount Vernon, IN) decommitted from Notre Dame on Tuesday, and the Buckeyes are right in position to land him.
Defensive coordinator Luke Fickell visited him on Monday, with head coach Urban Meyer visiting him next week. Werner also plans to make an official visit next weekend, during which time some think he'll make a commitment.
The 6-foot-3, 220-pounder is ranked as the No. 17 outside linebacker and No. 284 overall prospect in the country.
